Cancelled! This is New Training! NIPP 2.0© is for the nursing home infection preventionist who has previously taken NIPP© Nursing Home Infection Prevention Program….Nipping Infections in the Bud or other infection preventionist training.  NIPP 2.0© includes answers to infection preventionist’s frequently asked questions; instructions on how to conduct an outbreak investigation and the opportunity to work through outbreak scenarios; reviews updated guidelines and resources; and further explores how to present infection related data and use it to drive decision-making.  Small group activities and opportunities for facilities to share best practices and network with their peers are included in the training.  The training is one and half days, eligible for 10 CE hours.

Objectives

  1. To review updated and new CDC guidelines from 2019/2020 that are applicable to nursing home infection prevention programs.
  2. To review and answer frequently asked questions on infection prevention and control program implementation.
  3. To review NHSN surveillance case definitions for urinary tract infections and multi-drug resistant organisms (MDRO).
  4. To discuss how to apply NHSN surveillance case definitions.
  5. To practice calculating surveillance metrics.
  6. To identify 4 ways to present data to facilitate data-driven decision making.
  7. To identify and discuss the epidemiology of organisms that cause infections in long-term care facilities.
  8. To discuss antibiotic stewardship metrics and their application in nursing home antibiotic stewardship programs.
  9. To identify 3 different ways to present antibiotic stewardship data.
  10. To review and discuss the benefits and challenges with 3 different study designs.
  11. To understand relative risk ratios, p-values, and confidence intervals.
  12. To identify the steps of an outbreak investigation.
  13. To practice applying the steps of an outbreak investigation to 2 scenarios.
  14. To discuss histograms and attack rates and their application in an outbreak investigation.
  15. To review and discuss studies published in peer reviewed journals regarding infection prevention and control.
  16. To review and discuss journal articles that address the epidemiology of healthcare-associated and emerging pathogens.

Target Audience: Individuals who have primary professional training in nursing, medical technology, microbiology, epidemiology or other related field who will be responsible for the facility's Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP)*

Presenter: A.C. Burke is the Vice President for Healthcare Quality for RB Health Partners, Inc. and is the primary author for the Nursing Home Infection Prevention Program, NIPP©… NIPPing Infections in the Bud.  She holds a master’s degree in health management and is nationally board certified in infection control by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc.  Her 20 years of experience includes working in public health preparedness and response roles, serving as the manager of the Healthcare-associated Infection Prevention Program for the Florida Department of Health as well as the Director of Infection Prevention for Mayo Clinic Florida.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be made in writing and emailed to [email protected] or faxed to 502-425-3431. Cancellations by phone will not be accepted. Cancellations received no later than April 7 will receive a full refund. Cancellations received between April 7-April 13 will receive a refund of 1/2. Registrants who do not attend or who do not complete the full seminar will not receive a refund unless prior written notice is given to the KAHCF office.
